I started wondering, what if this is the perfect career that God intended for me to have at this moment? Doesn’t that change the way that I should approach what I’m doing?
We all like to talk, post, and tweet about being present and living in the moment. Yet, we keep at least one eye on the future, always waiting for the next thing, big or small. What that really means is fully embracing what is happening in this moment, not worrying about the next step. It is about doing right now really well, not saving excellence for later.
What if we started acting like this moment is really the only moment that we have? What if we work on making today the most important day, regardless of whether the future holds a promotion, a career change, or a new relationship? What if being in school is the most important thing you can do today rather than something that you do until you graduate and get a job?
So here’s the truth, friends. There are no placeholders in life, really. Plug into wherever you are with your best gifts and talents. Do not waste one atom of what you have been given, thinking that the current situation does not warrant your best.
Oh yeah, and another truth? The more your practice your gifting, do your thing – what you are meant to do and what feeds your soul, the better you get at doing it. Every time you do something you have the ability to improve. Every person you meet, every situation you are put in deserves your very best at that moment.
Don’t worry about the future, love now, work now, give now. Today is not a placeholder until something better comes along. The present is to be loved in, worked in, and lived in now!
